Inter-Municipal Assessment Review Board Members Needed

Members are needed for the Inter-Municipal Assessment Review Board.  Members of the Board must be 18 years of age or older and be current residents of Edson.

In accordance with the Matters Relating to Assessment Complaints Regulation 310/2009, assessors, tax agents and employees of the Town of Edson are ineligible to be members of an assessment review board.

All eligible citizens may apply, however, preference will be given to citizens with a background in:

  • Real Estate
  • Property Management
  • Property Appraisal
  • Assessment
  • Law

In addition, experience with a quasi-judicial board or administrative tribunal is considered an asset. Individuals with good analytical skills, the ability to be fair and open minded, and a capacity to work collaboratively with the general Chair and other Board members will be beneficial.

Board members are responsible for issuing decisions on disputes relative to property assessment.  They may be required to issue decisions for the Town of Edson and the surrounding municipalities of Hinton, Jasper, and Grande Cache.  The Town of Edson will organize and schedule the mandatory training sessions from Municipal Affairs.  Being a member provides the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals within the region.  Some travel may be required.  The number of hearings held for the region will vary on an annual basis.
