Community Protection Plan Final Consultation

Edson, Alberta, January 27th, 2015 – The Town of Edson, Yellowhead County and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development are currently working together to come up with a strategy to protect the area from the potential spread of wildfire.

The Town of Edson has received grant funding to hire a consultant for work on a Community Protection Plan. This plan looks at Edson, and a 10 kilometer radius around the Town, and develops strategies to mitigate the spread of wildfire. Over the last year public information sessions have been held and a draft plan has been completed. The final public consultation meeting will take place at the Galloway Station Museum in Edson on February 4th at 7 P.M.

“It’s a very important project for us to take on.” says Edson Fire Chief Al Schram. “Following the disaster in Slave Lake in 2011, it’s become apparent that all communities in forested areas need to take steps to protect from the spread of wildfire.”

The public is invited to attend this free session to provide important feedback as the consultant works to develop a final draft of the Community Protection Plan. The meeting is open to anyone living in Edson and the surrounding area.
