Water Tower Demolition Tender. After careful consideration and multiple studies of the Edson Water Tower, Edson Town Council has made the decision to move forward with the demolition of the structure. Council cited the costs to repair the current structural issues and poor aesthetics as major factors behind the decision. Council has approved the tender from McColman & Sons Demolition Ltd. at a cost of $115,300.00 plus GST for the removal of the Water Tower and underground reservoir. Administration has also been directed to make every effort to document its removal.

Cooling Tower. Council has approved the purchase of a new cooling tower for Talisman Place. The current tower has been problematic with leaks and is no longer serviceable. Without a proper cooling tower in place, the ice plant could not be restarted. The existing tower will be replaced with a stainless steel cooling tower at a cost of $100,000 plus GST with the funds coming from the Talisman Place Major Maintenance Reserve.

Council Honorarium. Council has authorized an increase in Council Honorariums effective May 1st, 2015. The Mayor’s Honorarium will go from $1,950.00/month to $2,000.00/month while Council’s Honorarium will increase from $975.00/month to $1,000.00/month.

Spin Bikes. Council has approved the purchase of 15 new spin bikes for use in the continuation of current classes being offered by the Town of Edson. Administration has cut costs in the overall Community Services budget to accommodate the purchase.

GYPSD Capital Project Cooperation. Council has instructed Administration to further investigate the potential for cooperation between the Town of Edson and the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division in future capital projects. A plan has been outlined which includes identifying site visits of similar partnership projects, approaching Yellowhead County to involve them in discussions, meetings between all potential partners and reports to Council.

Appointment of Auditor. Mergeart, Barford, Williams and Joly have been appointed as Auditors for the Town of Edson’s 2014 fiscal year.

Auditor’s Report. Council has accepted the 2014 Auditor’s Report and Financial Statements as presented.

Waste Handler Tender. Council has awarded the Waste Handler tender to Brandt Tractor Ltd. In the amount of $292,000.00 plus GST.

Pavement Patching. Council as extended the 2015 Pavement Patching Services contract for Prime West Contracting as the same rates and conditions as 2014.

Utility Write Offs. Council has agreed to write off 4 listed utility accounts as bad debts. The total amount is $314.13 and have been labeled as uncollectable for various reasons.

Development Permits. Council has approved a development permit for tank storage containment on Rodeo Road on a permanent basis subject to a number of conditions and provisions. The development previously held a temporary permit. Approval was also given for a shop, storage shed and office for a methanol storage business at the same address subject to conditions and provisions being met.

Council has also authorized a development permit for an addition to Walmart on the west side of the current building at 5720 2nd Avenue. Again this is subject to a number of conditions and provisions being met. This land is zoned Direct Control and requires Council approval.

Proclamation. Council has proclaimed the first Saturday in June as National Health and Fitness Day in the Town of Edson.

The next Council Meeting is scheduled for April 21st at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
