Council Notes - April 5th, 2016

2015 Year End Financial Statements. Shannon Barford, CA, gave a brief presentation to Council on the Town’s financials from 2015. Once finalized these financials will be posted on the Town’s website for public access.

Public Hearings. Council gave first reading to Bylaw No. 2181 to rezone all Town Owned Lands that are currently used for park space, but not zoned PR, to the Parks and Recreation zoning. A public hearing will be held May 3rd at 7:30 P.M. in Council Chambers.

Council also gave first reading to Bylaw 2179, amending the Land use Bylaw by changing minimum residential yard setbacks to 2.4 metres for a residence and 1.2 metres for a detached garage or shed. This lines the Land Use Bylaw up with Alberta Building Codes. A public hearing will be held May 3rd at 7:30 P.M. in Council Chambers.

Facilitator for Intermunicipal Meeting. Council has given approval for the use of Ms. Karen M. Trace as the facilitator for the Council to Council meeting between the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County.

Development Permit. Council has approved a Development Permit for a sawmill with firewood storage area and parking for 10 semi-trucks on land along Ansell Tower Road.  The property is located in a Direct Control District and the intended use falls in line with future land use plans.

Tenders. Council has accepted a bid from Rocky Mountain Equipment in the amount of $22,944.00 for a 15 foot Rotary Cut Mower

A bid from Brandt Tractor Ltd. was also accepted as the winning tender for a rubber tired backhoe/loader. The bid was for $126,367.50.

There were two bids for each tender and the accepted bids were the lowest in both cases.

Airport Rates. New rates for the Edson airport have been adopted. The rates were reviewed and changed to better reflect the services provided and to simplify and increase the accuracy of invoicing. The new rates are now in effect and reflected on our website.

Regional FCSS Meetings. As the Community Services Board is no longer overseeing the Town of Edson FCSS program, Council has approved Councillor Janet Wilkinson to attend the Regional FCSS Meetings on behalf of the Town of Edson.

Science Project – Chicken Coop. Council has approved the use of an area behind Holy Redeemer High School for an outdoor shelter for raising approximately 7 chickens for no more than 10 weeks. The project is set to commence April 25th.

Library Financials. The Edson and District Public Library Board financial statements were presented to Council for information.

Next meetings - A Committee of the Whole Meeting is planned for April 12th, 2016 at 10:00am in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building. The next Council Meeting will be April 19h, 2016 at 7:30pm.
