Council passed three readings of Bylaw 2128 extending the hours allowed for the receipt of nominations on Nomination Day. Nomination Day will be held September 23rd, 2013 from the hours of 8am to 12 noon at the Edson Civic Building.

The Advanced Vote for the upcoming municipal election has also been authorized by Council. The Advanced Vote will take place October 10th, 2013 from 10am to 8pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.

Local Improvement. Council has approved an amendment to the Local Improvement Bylaw dealing with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 53rd Street from 2nd Avenue to 4th Avenue. The amendment reflects the actual numbers now that final costs and debenture rates are known. The actual costs differed significantly from the original estimates after the underground infrastructure was exposed and it became apparent the scope of the project had to be increased substantially. The affected landowners were notified and agreed the work had to be done.

Deputy Mayor. Councillor Gomuwka has been appointed as Deputy Mayor effective from the first regular meeting in May until the first meeting in August, 2013. The normal alphabetical rotation will resume at that time.

Proclamation. Council has proclaimed April 20th to 27th, 2013 to be the “Immunization Awareness Week” within the Town of Edson.

Land Sale. Council has agreed to sell 4 vacant lots in Hillendale Phase I to a local developer. As there are soil problems on those specific lots Council has agreed to reimburse $7,200 per lot to allow the developer to counteract those issues. With the purchase of these lots Hillendale Phase I is now 100% sold out. Hillendale Phase II lots will be ready for sale this summer.

The next council meeting is scheduled for April 16th at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building
