Council Notes - February 16th, 2016

Land Use Fines. Council voted in favour of second reading of proposed Bylaw No. 2176 which established fines for the contravention of the Land Use Bylaw. The proposal includes a $500 fine for a first offence, $750 for a second offence and $1000 for a third. The proposed bylaw can be found on our website at www.edson.ca/bylaws.

Offsite Levy. Council has approved first reading of Bylaw 2177 – Offsite Levy Rate Bylaw. The Offsite rates must be reviewed periodically to ensure actual project costs. Some major changes in this bylaw include the removal of stormwater infrastructure, and two water infrastructure projects from the model. Stormwater will still be a responsibility of the developer, but at a separate stage in the development process. The proposed changes can be viewed on our website at www.edson.ca/bylaws.

Certificate of Compliance. Council has adopted Policy D-P-9 Certificate of Compliance as presented. The policy establishes a consistent approach to the processing of applications. A certificate of compliance is a voluntary service offered by the municipality, and is often required during property sales.

Deputy Mayor. Council has appointed Councillor Boyce as Deputy Mayor following the first regular meeting in March 2016 to the first regular meeting in July 2016.

County Council Meeting Request. Edson Council has voted in favour of officially requesting a Council to Council meeting with Yellowhead County Council. There are a number of outstanding issues that would benefit from direct discussion, rather than relying on media reports and exchange of letters.

Next meetings - A Committee of the Whole Meeting is planned for February 23rd, 2016 at 10:00am in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building. The next Council Meeting will be March 1st, 2016 at 7:30pm.
