Council Notes - January 13th, 2015

ANRTA Presentation. The Alberta Northern Rockies Tourism Alliance gave a presentation to Council on their progress with their Destination Management Plan project which was funded through a grant from Alberta Tourism Parks and Recreation.

Revised Edson Landfill Rates. Council has approved the revised Schedule “B”, Landfill Site Fees, for Bylaw No. 1858 which will go into effect April 1, 2015. With the recent incorporation of Jasper into the Landfill Authority, it’s anticipated the Town of Edson landfill costs will be increasing. Administration has reviewed the current rates to compensate and removed some items that are no longer accepted at the landfill (i.e. animal carcasses, contaminated fill, sump waste).

Town Manager Request. Council has approved a request from Town Manager Mike Derricott to attend Executive meetings for the Local Government Administration Association of Alberta (LGAA). Derricott is currently serving as Second Vice President of the organization and feels his continued involvement will be a benefit to the Town of Edson. All expenses are paid by the association so there is no direct cost to the Town.

Information Session. Approval was given for Council members to attend the George Cuff Information Session on Municipal Governance hosted by Yellowhead County this Friday.

West End Sewer Line. Council has directed administration to look into alternate routes for the sewer line if the proper right-of-ways can’t be acquired for the current design.

The next Council Meeting is scheduled for January 20th at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
