Council Notes - February 5th, 2019
Road Closure Policy. Council has adopted the Temporary Road Closure or Usage Policy as presented. The policy establishes a clear and consistent approval process and timelines for safe and coordinated temporary closures of roads for events and activities.
Highway 16 / 25th Street Intersection Agreement. Authorization has been given to enter into an agreement with Alberta Transportation for the widening on the Highway 16 / Highway 748 (25th Street) intersection. The Town’s portion of the project comes in at $99,850 and will be included in the 2020 Operating Budget, or in subsequent years as required.
Bench Creek Stabilization Project. Council voted against a motion to approve more funds for the Bench Creek Stabilization project until more accurate final costs can be provided. The matter will be brought back to Council once those figures are made available.
72 Hour Emergency Preparedness Kits. Council received a presentation from Protective Services on the importance of having emergency kits in homes and what should be included in the kits. The Town of Edson and Citizens on Patrol have partnered to purchase 200 emergency kit bags for residents, which also includes a list of items that should be in the kit. These are available on a first come, first served basis at the Town Office and Edson Fire Hall while supplies last. More information will be available on the Town of Edson website in the coming weeks.
Recycling Operations Agreement. Mayor Zahara, Deputy Mayor Currie, Councillor Sorensen, and CAO Derricott have been appointed by Council to negotiate an Operations Agreement between the Town of Edson and the Edson and District Recycling Society.
Next meeting - The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for February 12th, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The next Town Council Meeting is scheduled for February 19th, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
