Council Notes - January 21st, 2020
Emergency Management Bylaw. All three readings were given to Emergency Management Bylaw 2241. The bylaw focuses on Council’s responsibilities, defining the roles of the Emergency Advisory Committee and Emergency Management Agency, as well as appoints the Director of Emergency Management.
Recycling Council of Alberta Symposium. Council has approved the attendance of the Edson and District Recycling Society Council Representative or Alternate to attend the Recycling Council of Alberta’s Waste to Energy Symposium in St. Albert on March 12th.
Uncollectable Linear Accounts. Council has agreed to write off the outstanding linear accounts as presented, totalling just over $40,000. These accounts are deemed uncollectable due to bankruptcy or other circumstances. This allows the Town to apply for a credit from the Province, equal to the provincial requisitions on those properties.
Letter to the MLA. A letter to MLA Martin Long was accepted as information. The letter from Mayor Kevin Zahara outlines the Town’s concerns regarding pedestrian safety along Highway 16, specifically, the delay in getting traffic signals installed at the 55th Street intersection.
Notice of Motions. Council has directed Administration to bring forward reports on potential resolutions for the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association’s (TCYHA) upcoming Annual General Meeting. The resolutions are for the TCYHA to lobby the Province for better maintenance of Highway 16 through Edson, as well as to improve pedestrian safety with more traffic lights on Highway 16 through Edson.
Quarterly Report. The 2019 December Quarterly Report was accepted as presented.
Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for January 28th, 2020 at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers. The next Council Meeting is scheduled for February 4th, 2020 at 7:00 pm
