Edson, Alberta, April 29th, 2014 – Edson residents living near the airport will notice some construction noise over the next few months.
From May 1st, 2014 to approximately September 30th, 2014 extensive construction will be taking place at the Edson Airport in order to accommodate the ESRD Forestry base upgrade. This 6.5 million dollar provincially funded construction project will modernize the forestry base to allow larger airplanes at the Edson Airport for firefighting purposes.
In order to minimize the impact to regular airport operations some of the construction will be taking place at night. The night shift will run from 8 P.M. to 6:59 A.M. A bulk of the noise will take place in the first two nights as pulverizing will be done. Steps are being taken to minimize the impact to our residents, but those living near the airport will notice an increase in noise levels.
The construction will also have an impact on the hours of operation for the airport. The Airport will remain open from 7am to 8pm each day. However, from 8:01 P.M. to 6:59 A.M. the runway will be closed to all traffic except emergency flights. There is a plan in place to allow for air ambulance flights if necessary.
We apologize for any inconvenience this construction may cause. However, it should be noted at the end of this project Edson and area will benefit greatly from an improved Forestry base. If you have any questions about this project please contact the Town Office at 780-723-4401
