Cannabis Land Use Framework and Survey Results

Cannabis Land Use Framework and Survey Results

Posted on September 20th, 2018

Edson Town Council passed first reading of the Cannabis Framework for changes to the Land Use Bylaw. This deals with cannabis related businesses and zoning once cannabis is legalized by the Federal Government this fall.

A few changes were made to the original framework. Council has requested that cannabis related store setbacks be reduced to 100 metres to allow for more opportunities and less restriction on competition. They’ve also removed cannabis lounges from the framework to allow for Federal rules and guidelines on lounges and edibles to be established first.

Go to www.edson.ca/bylaws or follow the links below to see the proposed bylaw, as well as the results of the public survey conducted over the summer.

Feedback can still be provided by calling 780-723-4402 or emailing our Planning Department. A Public Hearing is scheduled for October 16th, 2018 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers.
