Council Notes - April 17th, 2018

Delegations. Council received a presentation from the Edson and District Historical Society on Wop May’s history relating to the Edson area and plans to hold special events relating to the 100th year anniversary since Wop May’s famous landing in Edson. Council passed a motion to send a letter of support for the events for use in grant applications.

A presentation was also given by Ms. Shannon Barford, CA, on the 2017 Year End Financial Statement for the Town of Edson. The financial statements will be posted online once finalized.

Public Hearing.  A public hearing was held for two proposed road right of way closures in the area of 70th Street and 5A Avenue. There were no submissions or objections received.

Portable and Inflatable Signage. First reading was given to Bylaw 2208, amending the Land use Bylaw to remove references to portable and inflatable signs. Council also gave first reading to Bylaw 2209, to establish a portable and inflatable sign licensing system. A Public Hearing for both bylaws has been set for June 19, 2018 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers.

Multiplex Steering Committee. Council has appointed Councillor Wilkinson and Councillor Bevan to the Steering Committee for the Recreational Multiplex Facility Project. This followed a secret ballot process to determine the candidates. The Steering Committee is comprised of the Mayor, CAO, and two Councillors from the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County.

Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for April 24th, 2018 at 10:00 am. The next Council Meeting is scheduled for May 1st, 2018 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers.
