Council Notes - April 28th, 2015
Custom Cruisers Delegation. The Custom Cruisers gave a brief presentation to Council on the status of their group of classic car enthusiasts. They also made a request to use Centennial Park as a location for their planned car show on Saturday August 15, 2015. The show would be in conjunction with the annual Sidewalk Jamboree. Council approved the request.
Shrine Toll Gate. Council has approved the Northern Lights Shrine Club to hold their annual Shrine Toll Gate on June 20, 2015. The purpose is to give the highway traffic the opportunity to voluntarily donate with optional donation lanes. The planned location is beside Centennial Park on both sides of the highway, pending approval from the Department of Highways and the R.C.M.P.
Deep Utility Upgrades. Council has awarded the 2015 Deep Utility Upgrade & Replacement Program & Related Works to High Mountain Hoe Services at their 2014 rates (plus GST) and allowed for increased costs for pipes and material not in the existing contract.
Street Paving. Council awarded the tender for the 2015 Street Paving Program and Related Works to E Construction Ltd. For their bid in the amount of $566,790.00 (plus GST). This includes the paving of 42nd to 46th Street on 5th Avenue, and between 4th and 6th Avenue on 42nd Street.
Arena Fee Increases. After a recent fee comparison study of other regional facilities, and due to increasing costs, administration made the recommendation to increase user fees for the arenas at Talisman Place. Council approved the increases (Talisman Place Arena Fee Increases - Effective July 1st, 2015) and they will go into effect July 1, 2015. There will be increases of approximately 10% this year, and 3% in 2016 and 2017.
Summer Meeting Schedule. Council has cancelled all meetings for July and August and scheduled the following meetings during that time. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 7:30pm, and Tuesday August 18, 2015 at 7:30pm. Both meetings will be held in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
Assessor RFP. Council has made a decision to send out a Request for Proposal for the Town’s Assessor contract to see what the market has to offer at this time.
Tax Sale. Council has directed Administration to start the process of changing the title on the bare land it received in the recent tax sale to reflect the Town of Edson’s ownership.
Water Line Issue. A recent water line break along 2nd avenue on the east end of Town has brought forward concerns over the private water line in that area. At the time of development a document was signed indicating Council could deem the water line an issue and the developer would be required to pay to hook onto a more suitable line at that time. As this is the third water break in that area, Council has decided that the time has come for that change to take place and will be requiring the water hook up to be moved.
The next Council Meeting is scheduled for May 5th at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
