Council Notes - April 2nd, 2019

Public Hearing. There were no submissions or objections to Bylaw 2227, closing a portion of roadway south of 6th Avenue and east of 42nd Street. The roadway is unused and was originally set to be purchased by an adjacent landowner. The sale is no longer happening, but Council moved forward with the road closure passing 2nd and 3rd reading unanimously.

Unrestricted Surplus Replenishment. As the Alberta Water/Wastewater Partnership grant program was unfunded by the Province in the 2018/2019 budget year, the Town was forced to fund the remainder of the Wastewater Treatment Plant costs from Unrestricted Surplus. In order to keep the Unrestricted Surplus at acceptable levels, Council had to make some decisions on how to replenish that. Council has reallocated the $400,000 set aside for the Yellowhead Agricultural Society, which will be reviewed again as their project gets closer to moving forward. Council also reallocated the $318,000 set aside for water well exploration in 2019.

Meeting Changes. Council has agreed to move the regular Council meeting, scheduled for April 16th, 2019, to April 18th at 9:50 am at the Holy Redeemer School as a part of the Youth Council Program. A Special Meeting was also set for April 16th at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers to hear a delegation from Medically at Risk Drivers (MARD).

Landfill Funding. Council has approved $136,000 to come from the Infrastructure Reserve to go towards the 2018 Landfill Reclamation to cover future liability from the current landfill fire.

Information Items. A letter from the Minister of Community and Social Services regarding some of Edson’s Community and Social Service programs was accepted for information.

Next meeting - The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for April 9th, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The next Town Council Meeting (Special) is scheduled for April 16th, 2019 at 5:00 pm. A Regular Council Meeting will also be held at Holy Redeemer High School on April 18th at 9:50 am.
