Council Notes - April 3rd, 2018
Council Code of Conduct. Council gave second and third reading to Bylaw 2212, Council Code of Conduct. In accordance with new requirements of the Municipal Government Act, a Code of Conduct Bylaw was required to be passed by July 23, 2018. The bylaw governs conduct for Council, including items such as respectful workplace, discrimination, acceptance of gifts, and more. It also outlines procedures in the event of a breach of the bylaw.
Bench Creek Stabilization. Bank sloughing at Bench Creek near the RCMP building has been a persisting problem and must be dealt with to protect the building. The tender process only brought in one bid and Council has directed administration to re-tender the project. It’s hoped adjusting the schedule of the project can help bring in more competitive bids. Work is expected to commence on the bank stabilization this summer.
Reservoir Repairs. Repairs are expected to commence soon on the reservoir that was damaged this winter during a large-scale water break at a time of frigid temperatures. Administration has presented Council with information on the repairs required and have also confirmed that the repairs will be covered by the Town’s insurance. The repairs are expected to take 8-10 weeks which should limit concerns about water supplies as consumption increases during the summer months.
Multi-Use Facility. Council has approved the entering of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Yellowhead County regarding the construction and operation of a new multi-use facility in Edson. More details will be available soon at www.edson.ca.
