Council Notes - December 4th, 2018

Delegation. Council received a presentation from the Edson and District Learning Society outlining their operations within the community and requesting a financial contribution from the Town. Council thanked them for the presentation and indicated they would keep the group in mind during future budget deliberations.

Records Management and Retention Bylaw. Council has given first reading to the Records Management and Retention Bylaw. The new bylaw updates the previous one, which was passed in 1983. It outlines the processes and timelines for the storing and destruction of records.

Youth Council Policy. The Youth Council Policy has been given approval by Council.  This policy outlines the creation and operation of a Youth Council, which will be a direct link to Town Council for input into municipal processes and to report on various community issues pertaining to youth. It’s expected the Youth Council will launch in January 2019.

Budget 2019. Council has approved the 2019 Operational and Capital Budgets as presented. The budget includes a 3.9 percent budget increase. A full budget release, public budget document, and infographic are available online at

Personnel Matters. $150,000 was approved to come from unrestricted surplus to deal with personnel matters as discussed in the closed session.

CAO Review. Council approved a motion for the Mayor to speak with CAO Mike Derricott regarding his annual performance review.
