Tax Exemption. Council has approved the tax exemption request for the Edson Tumblers Gymnastics Club. The Club has recently moved locations and the exemption will be pro-rated for both the old and new location. The Gymnastics Club provides a service which qualifies the property in which they are located to be tax exempt.
Recycling Conference. Council has approved the attendance of Councillor Sorensen and Councillor Wilkinson for the upcoming Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) Conference.
Returning Officer Appointment. Due to the resignation of the Legislative Coordinator, a new Returning Officer was required. Council has appointed Mike Passey as the Returning Officer for the 2021 Municipal Election with the Chief Administrative Officer serving as the Substitute Returning Officer.
Subdivision & Development Appeal Board (SDAB) Clerk. Jasen Aussant has been appointed as the SDAB Clerk for the Town of Edson, effective June 30th, 2021. Training will also be provided.
Griffiths Park Grant Application. Approval was given for Administration to move forward with a grant application for the Griffith Park Building upgrades. The application is being made through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and, if successful, the grant could cover 100% of costs associated with an engineering study and up to 75% of product and labour costs for HVAC upgrades and lighting retrofits.
Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for June 22nd, 2021, at 7:00 pm.
While the Council Chambers remains closed to the public at this time, public and media are able to register for virtual attendance. Registration links and agenda details are normally available Friday afternoons on the Town of Edson website or Facebook Page. In-person meetings are expected to resume in July.
