Council Notes - June 18th, 2019

Delegation. Council received a delegation from Duane Martin regarding the Living and Working Recovery Program.

Procedural Bylaw. Second and third reading was given to Council Procedural Bylaw No. 2230. This bylaw outlines the procedures surrounding Council and Committee meetings.

Development Appointments. To match up with recent staff changes in the planning department, Council has appointed Kari Florizone, Lisa-Jen Resek, and Martino Verhaeghe as Development Officers for the Town of Edson.

Deputy Mayor. Councillor Janet Wilkinson has been appointed as Deputy Mayor starting July 1st, 2019 and expiring on the first day of November 2019.

Land Use – Places of Worship. Council has given first reading to Bylaw 2232, amending Land Use Bylaw 2070. This bylaw would remove section 77, which sets site standards for Places of Worship. Administration finds this section to be overly restrictive for smaller congregations. Places of Worship are also covered by general regulations that apply to all development. A public hearing has been set for July 9th, 2019 at 5pm in Council Chambers. More information can be found at www.edson.ca/bylaws.

Legal Advice. Council accepted a legal opinion on a land matter as information.

Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for June 25th, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The next Council Meeting is scheduled for July 9th, 2019 at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers.
