Council Notes - March 5th, 2019
Multi-Use Recreation Complex. Council has passed a motion to support the Multi-Use Recreation Complex conceptual project scope, along with the proposed project timeline and estimated cost of $70 million, as recommended by the Regional Multiplex Steering Committee. Yellowhead County Council passed a similar motion last week. The Steering Committee will now arrange a meeting to discuss next steps.
Delegation. Council received a presentation from Community Futures West Yellowhead regarding their 2-year follow-up to their Business Visitation Survey completed in 2017. The business visitation program determines the needs and opportunities for business growth in the community and the results provide valuable information for the Town, specifically as Economic Development plans are developed.
Cellular Device Policy. The new Town Issued Cellular Device Usage Policy has been approved by Council. This policy establishes guidelines for the issuance and operation of Town owned cellular devices for the CAO and elected officials. The aim is to enhance security, limit Town liability, and help manage costs.
Resource Communities of Canada Coalition. Council has agreed to support the Resource Communities of Canada Coalition through the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA). The group is being formed to provide a united voice to advocate for a responsible resource industry, ensure municipal perspectives are being heard on issues impacting resource development, and to share factual information regarding resource development interests.
Correspondence. Council accepted letters from the Minister of Environment and Climate Change regarding Bill C-69 and M.P. Jim Eglinski on the mountain pine beetle as information.
