Council Notes - May 20th, 2014
Electrical Franchise Agreement. Council has authorized the Town of Edson to enter into an Electrical Franchise Agreement with Fortis Alberta Ltd. for a 10 year period commencing January 1, 2015 and the option for two (2) five year extensions if both parties agree. Council approved first reading of Bylaw 2141 for the agreement and it will now be sent to the Alberta Utilities Commission for approval before being brought back to Council for ratification.
Policing. Council accepted for information an invoice from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police “K” Division in the amount of $539,859.72 (GST Exempt) with respect to municipal policing costs for the period from January 1st to March 31st, 2014. The policing costs are already approved in the 2014 Budget.
Shrine Toll Gate. Council has granted permission to the Northern Lights Shrine Club to hold their annual Shrine Toll Gate on June 21, 2014. The fundraiser will be set up on both sides of the highway adjacent to Centennial Park with the approval of the Department of Highways and the R.C.M.P.
Public Auction. Council has authorized the disposal of unclaimed items, currently stored on behalf of the RCMP and the Town, by way of public auction. When RCMP or Town staff discovers stolen or abandoned items, they are processed per RCMP protocols and then transferred to the Town for storage. If the items remain unclaimed for a period of at least 6 months they can be disposed of by public auction. The auction is set for Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Edson Auctions.
The next Council Meeting is scheduled for May 27th at 1:00pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
