Council Notes - May 21st, 2013

Hillendale Phase II Zoning. Council has passed first reading of Bylaw 2132. This bylaw will rezone the portions of land within Hillendale Phase II from Urban Reserve to Single Family residential, High Density Residential, Direct Control, and Parks and Recreation. Work is nearing completion on the new subdivision and sales are expected to start in July. A Public Hearing on the bylaw has been scheduled for June 18th, 2013 at 7:30 PM in Council Chambers.

YRL Agreement Change. Council has approved a requested change to the Yellowhead Regional Library Master Membership Agreement. The change aligns the Membership Agreement’s “withdrawal clause” with that of the Library Act. The Library Act states that after 3 years of entering the agreement, a party may give 12 months notice to withdraw.

Tenders. Council has approved the following Tenders to the lowest bidder

Portable Air Compressor – SMS (only bidder)

15’ Finishing Tri Deck Mower – Martin Deerline

Public Auction. Council has authorized the disposal of unclaimed items, currently stored on behalf of the RCMP and the Town, by way of public auction and that the auction be publicly advertized. When RCMP or Town staff discovers stolen or abandoned items, they are processed per RCMP protocols and then transferred to the Town for storage. If the items remain unclaimed for a period of at least 6 months they can be disposed of by public auction. Once a date is set for the annual auction it will be advertised in local media and on the Town’s website.

Corporate Disposal. A list of equipment that is no longer required by the Town, or has been replaced by newer equipment, has been approved by Council to be disposed of via public auction in Edmonton. One item, a 15’ Tri Deck Mower, was removed from the list and will be up for further discussion as it would be very useful for the local Kinsmen Club in maintaining the diamonds at Vision Park.

Meeting Cancellation. Council has cancelled the regular meeting of Council scheduled for May 28th, 2013 due to the upcoming Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference

The next council meeting is scheduled for June 4th at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building
