Council Notes - May 5th, 2015
Housing First Delegation. A presentation was made to Council surrounding the homelessness issue in rural Alberta, plans to help study the issue further in Edson and to work towards a solution. The group is working closely with the Friendship Centre and just wanted to bring awareness of the program to Council at this time.
Fuel Agreement. Council has approved the extension of the 2015 Fuel agreement to Dandy Oil Products Ltd. for one additional year ending December 31, 2015 with no changes to the services and rates.
Development Permits. Council has approved a development permit for an accessory building at 6722 15th Avenue. This required Council approval as the land is zoned Direct Control.
Council has also approved a development permit for some new signage at Walmart. This land is also zoned as Direct Control and required Council approval before proceeding.
VE Day Parade. Council has granted permission for the Royal Canadian Legion Joe Wynn Branch No. 51 to hold their VE Day Parade on May 9, 2015. The parade will start at 10:30am in the Legion parking lot and continue west on 5th Avenue to 54th Street and crossing to Centennial Park. This is subject to RCMP approval.
Information Items. Council accepted posters for some upcoming gardening courses and this weekend’s Community Shredding Day at the Recycle Depot as information.
Business License Bylaw. Some proposed amendments to the Business License Bylaw are being redirected back to the Protective Services Committee for further discussion and recommendation.
Land Sale. Council has accepted an offer from a developer for a piece of land on 1st Avenue, west of the GYPSD building. Two offers were received for the land and Council has accepted the higher offer.
The next Council Meeting is scheduled for May 12th at 1:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
