Council Notes - May 7th, 2013

Pavement Patching Service. Council has awarded a renewal of the Pavement Patching Services contract to 847012 Alberta Ltd. commencing January 1st, 2013. The new contract will retain the same rates as the 2012 contract.

Recycle Report. Council has approved for information the Edson and District Recycling Society’s 2012 Annual Report.

Living Waters Election. Council has agreed to enter into a contract with the Living Waters Regional Division No. 42 where the Town of Edson will conduct a portion of the 2013 election for School Trustees. The Living Waters Division has agreed to pay one half of all costs for the 2013 municipal election should an election for School Trustee be necessary in this division. In the event an election for Town Council is not necessary due to acclamation, then Living Waters would be responsible for actual costs incurred by the Town to conduct the separate school election.

Shrine Toll Gate. Council has granted permission to the Northern Lights Shrine Club to hold their annual Shrine Toll Gate on June 22nd, 2013. The fundraiser will be set up on both sides of the highway adjacent to Centennial Park with the approval of the Department of Highways and the R.C.M.P.

Summer Meeting Schedule. The summer meeting schedule has been set with all regular Council meetings scheduled for the months of July and August cancelled with the exception of July 16th, 2013 at 7:30pm and August 13th, 2013 at 7:30pm

Meeting Cancellation. Council has cancelled the regular meeting of Council scheduled for May 14th, 2013 due to staff being absent at that time.

Soap Box Derby Road Closure. Council has approved the temporary closure of 63rd Street from just south of the 12th Avenue entrance to just north of the Creekside Village entrance during this year’s Soap Box Derby. The closure will be in effect during the race on June 16th, 2013 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00pm.

Land Sale. Council has authorized the sale of a portion of recently closed laneway which runs behind Napa Autoparts on 2nd Avenue. The portion of the lane on the east end of the alley is being sold to Alda Holdings (Edson) Ltd. and will be consolidated with their land north of the lane. Negotiations for the remainder of the lane are ongoing

The next council meeting is scheduled for May 21st at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building
