Council Notes - November 17th, 2020
*Prior to the meeting the Emergency Coordination Centre made the decision, with Council’s support, to enact the Mandatory Facial Covering Bylaw. More information can be found at www.edson.ca/bylaws.
Delegation. Council heard a presentation from Kelly McTaggart of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers on the state of the industry.
Uncollectable Accounts. The 2020 uncollectable accounts were written off as listed. The Finance Department regularly reviews outstanding accounts and brings them forward for decision each year.
Homeless Shelter Pods. Council has approved a temporary 2-year variance to the Edson & District Recycling Society’s lease, allowing them to partner with the Edson Friendship Centre to build and operate homeless shelter pods on the Town of Edson property occupied by the Recycle Society.
Council also approved a one time grant of $64,000 to the partnership (Edson & District Recycling Society and Edson Friendship Centre) for the shelter pod project. The grant is being funded from the COVID-19 emergency reserve and will require the appropriate FCSS conditions of reporting and outcome measurements.
Notice of Motion. Mayor Kevin Zahara brought forth a notice of motion for administration to bring back options to show appreciation to Edson employees for their contributions in 2020 to address the COVID-19 pandemic, with limited financial impact to taxpayers. Town of Edson staff worked with limited budgets and a 0.9 schedule for much of the year to help reduce the tax impact and contribute to the COVID-19 Emergency Reserve. Administration will bring a report to a future meeting.
