Council Notes - November 1st, 2016

Historical Society Delegation. President of the Edson & District Historical Society Doug Woodhouse presented Council with a large framed photograph of the Caboose that sits in Centennial Park as a thank you for contributions made to the restoration of the piece.

Strategic Priorities. Council approved some updates to the Council Strategic Priorities document (attached). This document is reviewed and updated annually to ensure it remains relevant for our community.

Bullying Awareness Week.  November 13th to November 19th, 2016 has been proclaimed as “Bullying Awareness Week” in the Town of Edson and all citizens are asked to stand up to stop bullying and to work together to make Edson a bully free community.

Council Seminar. Permission has been granted for Councillor Tammy Strang to participate in Grant MacEwan’s Lobby Government Effectively Seminar.

Library Board. Ms. Trudy Brown has been appointed to the Edson Public Library Board. Her appointment starts immediately and will expire in November of 2019.

Meeting Cancelations. The December 27th, 2016 Committee of the Whole meeting and the January 3rd, 2017 Council meeting has been cancelled due to the holiday season.

40th Street Lighting. Council has directed Administration to install street lighting on 40th Street from the 6th Avenue/40th Street roundabout to southwest of the Lion’s Club campground to improve lighting in that area. Overhead cables will also be buried in that area at the same time. The cost of the project is expected to be approximately $236,259.11 + GST, to be funded from the Energy Reserve.

Santa Claus Parade. Council has approved the 2016 Chamber of Commerce Santa Claus Parade route and agreed to provide assistance with respect to barricades. The parade will be held December 2nd, 2016 and the route has changed this year (attached)

 Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole meeting will be held November 8th, 2016 at 10am. The next Council Meeting will be held November 15th, 2016 at 7:30pm.
