Council Notes - November 25th, 2014
Delegations. Weyerhaeuser Edson Manager Mike Dietsch gave a presentation to Council on the mill’s current operations, community support, and environmental monitoring. Weyerhaeuser currently has an application into the Province to renew their Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act approval which would allow for the mill to operate for the next 10 years.
Gerald Forbes and Bobbi Foulds of the Edson Royal Canadian Legion gave a brief presentation and requested permission from Council to use a corner of Centennial Park to house a monument created by a decommissioned Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV). Council approved the use of the north east corner of Centennial Park for the monument. The Edson Royal Canadian Legion will now make an official application to bring the monument to Edson.
Rezoning Applications. Council received 2 applications to change the zoning on properties in Town from single family residential to low density multi-family residential to accommodate basement suites where the landlord is not an occupant on the property. These properties are located at 1620 Edson Drive and 5926 10th Avenue. While there was some opposition to allowing the rezoning, first reading was approved in both cases and public hearings set for January 20th at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers.
Policing. Council accepted for information an invoice from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police “K” Division in the amount of $601,030.82 (GST Exempt) with respect to municipal policing costs for the period from July 1st to September 30th, 2014. The policing costs are already approved in the 2014 Budget.
Development Permits. Council has approved a development permit for a sign along a fence at 229 Rodeo Road which is zoned as Direct Control. Council is required to give approval to any development in Direct Control zoning areas.
Council has approved a development permit for a shed at 317 Rodeo Road which is also zoned as Direct Control.
Subdivision Time Extensions. Council has approved one year time extensions for subdivision registrations in two areas of Glenwood. The first is just west of Dirt Works on 70th Street, and the second is the area north of the Christian School and west of Glenwood Hall.
Meeting Cancellation. The regular Council Meetings scheduled for December 23, 2014 and January 6, 2015 have been cancelled for the holiday season.
Thank You. Council accepted for information a Thank You card from the Edson Community Garden Building Committee for the Town’s support for the project.
The next Council Meeting is scheduled for December 2nd at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
