Council Notes - November 4th, 2014
Fire Medal Presentation. Fire Chief Alan Schram and Mayor Greg Pasychny presented Edson Firefighter Cal Thompson with his Federal medal for twenty years of exemplary service. Cal’s wife Wendy also received a pin to mark the occasion.
Evergreens Foundation Update. Council received some correspondence from the Evergreens Foundation regarding plans for upgrades to the Seniors Lodges in Hinton and Edson. The letter outlines plans and cost estimates for the two projects, but doesn’t include any grants that may become available. The Evergreens Foundation requested support from Council on the project plans, which was given unanimously.
Stockroom Service Contract. Council has agreed to extend the 2014 Stockroom Contract awarded to Northern Metalic for one additional year, ending December 31, 2015, with no changes to services and rates.
Meeting Cancellation. The regular Council Meeting scheduled for November 18, 2014 has been cancelled due to the upcoming Council/Management Retreat.
Public Hearing Postponement. Due to the cancellation of the November 18, 2014 Council meeting, the Public Hearing in respect to the Park “A” Road Closure has been postponed to December 2, 2014 at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers.
Library Board Appointment. Council has appointed Ann Steffes and Barbara Prescott to the Edson Public Library Board with terms to begin immediately and end October 31st of 2017.
Tour of Alberta. Last month Council was approached by the Tour of Alberta Cycling event to be a start point during one leg of the race in 2015. The cost for a municipality to be a start in the event is $100,000. Council passed a motion to contribute $50,000 towards the project as requested, contingent on Yellowhead County also contributing $50,000 as they would also be in the spotlight during that leg of the race. It was noted there is a big opportunity for Edson and Yellowhead County to be highlighted on a world stage as an estimated 41 million international television viewers watched the race in 2013 and it had an estimated $24 million economic impact.
The next Council Meeting is scheduled for November 25th at 1:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
