Council Notes - October 26th, 2021 Organizational Meeting
Swearing in. The new Council was sworn in prior to the start of the Organizational Meeting.
Council Boards and Committees. One of the duties as Mayor is to appoint Councillors to specific boards and committees. The updated schedule was approved, and the new list is attached.
Meeting Schedule. The Council meeting schedule has been adopted as follows:
Regular Meetings of Council to be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, either in the Council Chambers or virtually, commencing at 7:00 P.M.
Committee of the Whole meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month either in the Council Chambers or virtually, commencing at 7:00 P.M.
The following meetings will be cancelled: November 16, 2021 (AUMA Convention); December 21, 2021 (winter break); January 4, 2022 (winter break); July 5, 2022 (summer break); August 2, 2022 (summer break); and September 20, 2022 (AUMA Convention)
Library Board. Council has appointed Jocelynne DeVille, Brooklyn Konchakowski, and Nathan Schalm to the Edson Public Library Board, commencing immediately and expiring October 2024.
SDAB Board. Council has appointed Debbie Burgess and Maria Carter as Board Members on the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, with terms to expire October 2024. Douglas Jackson and Val Bezushko have been appointed as Alternate Board Members.
Deputy Mayor Rotation. Council will continue to rotate the position of Deputy Mayor every 4 months between each Councillor in alphabetical order with the following schedule.
- Councillor Krystal Baier – November 1, 2021 – February 28, 2022
- Councillor Trevor Bevan – March 1, 2022 – June 30, 2022
- Councillor Gean Chouinard – July 1, 2022 – October 31, 2022
- Councillor Ed Moore - November 1, 2022 – February 28, 2023
- Councillor Greg Pasychny – March 1, 2023 – June 30, 2023
- Councillor Peter Taylor – July 1, 2023 – October 31, 2023
Council Notes - October 26th, 2021
ATCO Franchise Fee. Council has maintained the ATCO Franchise Fee at 20%. With an increase in ATCO’s projected Delivery Tariff Revenue, the Town of Edson is able to maintain the current rate, while increasing the projected revenue to approximately $641,000.
Fortis Franchise Fee. Council has maintained the Fortis Alberta Franchise Fee at 4.75%. It’s anticipated that keeping the rate the same for 2021 will result in an increase in funding of approximately $28,000 from last year. The money collected from this levy goes directly into an Energy Reserve.
Quarterly Report. Council has accepted the 2021 September Quarterly Report as presented.
Next meetings - The next Council meeting is scheduled for November 2nd, 2021, at 7:00 pm. The next Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for November 9th, 2021, at 7:00 pm.
While the Council Chambers remains closed to the public at this time, public and media are able to register for virtual attendance. Registration links and agenda details are normally available by Monday morning on the Town of Edson website or Facebook Page.
