Council Notes - October 28th, 2014

Community Social Needs Assessment. Robert Parks from RC Strategies gave a presentation to Council regarding the recently completed Social Needs Assessment for the Town of Edson. A number of surveys were completed as well as stakeholder meetings over the last year and the review included an inventory of social services, a strategic review, trends and issues and recommendations. Among the recommendations were a cross-sectional collaboration, communications and awareness, and strategic funding. The final document has been posted to our website and can be found at

Council Meeting Schedule. The meeting schedule has changed. Regular meetings of Council will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building at 7:30 P.M. and on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building at 1:30 P.M.

The Board and Committee meeting schedule has also been attached.

Legislative Responsibilities of Council. As outlined in the Municipal Government Act, the Chief Administrative Officer has ensured that Council is advised in writing of its legislative responsibilities under the Act. Council has accepted the details as information. This was brought forward again as Councillor Gomuwka was not in attendance at the October 21st Organizational Meeting.

Proclamation. Council has proclaimed November 16 to 22, 2014 as Bullying Awareness Week within the Town of Edson.

Chief Administrative Officer. Following an in-camera discussion, Council passed a motion to present a revised offer to applicant Mike Derricott.

The next Council Meeting is scheduled for November 4th at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Edson Civic Building.
