Council Notes - October 6th, 2020

Fortis Franchise Fee. Council has maintained the Fortis Alberta Franchise Fee at 4.75%. It’s anticipated that keeping the rate the same for 2020 will result in an increase in funding of approximately $10,000 from last year. The money collected from this levy goes directly into an Energy Reserve.

Griffiths Park Centre.  Council has approved $171,600 to go towards renovations to the Griffiths Park Centre. This will be funded from the FCSS Operational Reserve, ParentLink Operational Reserve, and the Recreation and Culture Operational Reserve. The goal is to re-purpose the Centre as a community hub for programming and events, as well as a new home for the Town of Edson Community Development Team.

Library Funding. Council has reinstated $44,000 to the 2020 Emergency Budget for the Edson Public Library as they start to expand hours and operations following the COVID-19 restrictions. This money is being funded from the Emergency COVID-19 Reserve Fund.

Auditor Contract Extension. Mergaert, Barford, Williams, Joly & Starkevich have been appointed as the Town of Edson’s Auditors for the year ends of 2020 and 2021.

Building Maintenance. $11,500 has been approved for the replacement of the air conditioning unit in the Civic Centre’s server room. The funding will come from the Building Maintenance Reserve
