Council Notes - September 10th, 2013

Land Rezoning. Council has given first reading to Bylaw 2136 to redistrict a lot along 7th Avenue between 49th Street and 50th Street from Single Family residential to Low Density Multiple Family Residential to allow for a duplex. A Public Hearing has been scheduled for October 1st, 2013 at 7:30pm in Council Chambers.

Sewage Disposal Securities. Council has approved, as a condition of development, a $4,000 security be required to ensure field systems are removed and pump out systems are installed as per development permits. Once the removal of the septic field system has been verified the security will be returned to the owner of the property.

Subdivision. Council has given approval for a subdivision at 7022 – 4th Avenue to create three lots. Two lots on the north side will become single family residential and the south lot will be zoned for industrial/commercial.

Development Permit. A Development Permit has been approved by Council for a second dwelling, being a granny suite, to be located at 6696-15th Avenue. Water wells and pump out septic systems are permitted in that area and securities will be required to ensure water meters and a proper septic system are installed as a condition of the development.

Public Auction. Council has approved the 2013 Public Auction date to be set for November 14th, 2013. Every year, in accordance to the Municipal Government Act, Town Administration prepares a listing of tax arrears relating to both land and mobile homes, and a lien is placed against each property and mobile. The owners are properly notified that they have until March 31st of the next year to bring the arrears up to date or the property will be placed on the public auction list.

Hillendale Phase II Pricing. The price list for lots in Hillendale Phase II has been approved by Council and administration has been given approval to proceed with the Request for Proposal process with regards to the sale of the large multi family lot. Lot sales are scheduled to begin September 26th, 2013. An interactive map of the lots is available on our website at and lot prices will be added by the end of the week.

Council Remuneration. Council has approved an amendment to the Edson Council Remuneration Policy which includes an increase for both Council and Mayor effective January 1st, 2014.The Mayor will receive an honorarium of $1,950 per month while Council members will receive $975 per month. Members of Council will also have the option to participate in the extended health and dental benefits program, however Councillors would be responsible to cover 100% of any premiums.
