Council Notes - September 5th, 2017

Public Hearings. A Public Hearing was held for Bylaw 2204, amending the Land Use Bylaw regarding portable signage. There were two submissions and one member of the public in attendance to speak on the potential changes. Some concerns were raised regarding timelines for removal of signs, illumination, and clarification on what makes a sign portable vs permanent within the bylaw. Suggestions were also made regarding a potential licensing process for portable signs.

Offsite Levy Bylaws. Council gave second and third reading to repeal a number of old Offsite Levy Bylaws that were implemented between 1977 and 1994.

Road Closure. Council has rescinded resolution 5 and 6 from the July 18, 2017 Council meeting regarding a road closure attached to the Anderson subdivision. They were rescinded as they were made due to an administrative error. The road closure will be brought back following Ministerial approval.

Intermunicipal Development Plan. First reading was given to Bylaw 2200, updating the existing Intermunicipal Development Plan. The Town of Edson and Yellowhead County have been working with Lovatt Consultants over the past year to review the plan. A Public Hearing will be held October 3, 2017 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers. Municipal Internship Program. Council has approved proceeding with a grant application for the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) – Municipal Internship Program, administered through Municipal Affairs. The Town of Edson has been involved with the program for the past two years with great success.

Meeting Schedule. The October 17, 2017 Council meeting and October 24, 2017 Committee of the Whole meeting has both been cancelled.

Council also set the swearing in ceremony, organizational meeting and regular Council meeting for October 24, 2017 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers.  

Assessor Contract. Council has appointed Compass Assessment Consultants Inc. as the Town of Edson’s assessor and extended the current contract for a period of five years, expiring after the 2022 assessment year (June 30, 2023).

Land Sale. Council has directed Administration to accept an offer on Town owned property, conditional on legal review as per the terms discussed in camera. Once terms are finalized, details will be advertised for public information.

Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole will be held September 12th, 2017 at 10:00 am. The next Council Meeting is scheduled for September 19th, 2017 at 7:30 pm.
