The Town of Edson is undertaking some work to maintain free-flowing drainage for storm water via ditches, culverts, and storm sewer systems.
To reduce the amount of reactive repairs required due to poor drainage during spring melt and heavy rain seasons, we are performing some routine maintenance.
Assessments found that a large portion of culverts were half filled with sediment, soil, and foliage. This prevents a full volume of flow. Our staff are currently working to redefine the ditch slopes and open the culvert orifice. This involves digging in the ditches as well as flooding the ditches with water to assess flow patterns and to flush loose material. Damaged culverts will be assessed for future repair.
This exercise is planned to last the entire summer as we work across the entire town. Line locates will be performed by the first call service as required.
The grass surface in the ditches will be disturbed / removed in some areas (in the ditch) during the process.
No culverts are being replaced at this time and no approaches are being removed / dug up in any way.
