EDRS is looking for votes for a new Community Garden!

Posted on May 31st, 2013

The Edson and District Recycling Society needs your help as they hope to develop a community garden.

EDRS is currently participating in Shell Canada's FuellingChange grant program, supporting environmental projects and organizations selected by voters, Shell will grant a total of $2 million annually to projects that improve and restore Canada’s environment.

FuellingChange allows Canadians to make a difference by supporting projects that matter the most to them. The projects with the most votes at the end of each cycle will receive grants in the amounts of $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000.

Shell is committing a total of $2 million dollars a year to support environmental projects across the country.

The Edson and District Recycling Society plans on developing a community garden and demonstration area within our community.

This garden will provide:

  • an opportunity for residents to establish garden plots for their own use, plus the ability to donate to the local food banks. It will also be a place for local garden groups to set up demonstration plots with native and Canadian heirloom plantings.
  • a demonstration area for household backyard composting programs and rainwater collection systems.
  • opportunities for local schools to incorporate hands on learning experiences for their students centering on growing plants and other earth science topics within the curriculum.
  • a permanent site for hosting environmental workshops and presentations.
