Edson, Alberta, October 7th, 2015 – The Edson and District Recreation Complex is changing hands.
An update was provided in a report to Council on Tuesday, October 6th, indicating the Edson and District Recreation Society has given notice that it will be taking steps to dissolve as a society. This would return the Recreation Complex building management to the Town of Edson.
In discussions with Yellowhead County, the Recreation Society, and the current Recreation Complex management team, the Town of Edson has begun the process of taking over. The Town will manage the facility under the Rec Society during this transition period, which will end on December 31st, 2015. During this time status quo will be maintained. In the New Year the Town of Edson will take over full control and plans are being drawn up to operate the facility with a model similar to what is being done at Talisman Place.
Current staff and management have been apprised of the situation.
The Edson and District Recreation Complex is owned by the Town of Edson; however, it has been operated and managed independently of the Town through the volunteer Edson and District Recreation Society since the facility was built in the early 1980’s. During this time the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County have maintained oversight through participation on the board and via yearly operational grants.
