Edson, Alberta, Sept 19th, 2014 – Edson’s Community Services Department is being recognized by the Provincial Government. The Town of Edson was selected as a winner of a ChooseWell Healthy Community Award in the ‘Building Community Capacity’ category for communities with a population between 5,000 and 9,999.
The ChooseWell Health Community Awards are designed to recognize and raise awareness of the efforts and achievements of community wellness champions, to increase awareness of the ways communities can influence healthy eating and active living, and to spread healthy ideas through Alberta and beyond.
“It’s a great honour for our department to receive this award.” says Edson Recreation Coordinator Krysta Shack. “We’ve made some tremendous strides over the last few years and we’re proud to bring some new healthy and active options for our residents.”
Edson Community Services was selected for their work in bringing the outdoor fitness equipment into Kinsmen Park and along some trail heads, as well as the work done in various Town events (Resolution Run, Family Day Unplugged Weekend, Step it Up Challenge, Eddie’s Big Run, Triathlon, etc). The various youth and active living conferences and camps were also a key in being selected.
The award will be presented at the ChooseWell Awards Banquet October 23rd, 2014 in Jasper.
