Edson Hosts Scott Firefit Event Aug 24th-25th, 2013
Edson, Alberta, August 15th, 2013 – We’re just over a week away from Edson’s Firefit event which is promising to be bigger and better than ever!
The Scott Firefit Championships Northern Alberta Regional event kicks off at 10am Saturday August 24th at Griffiths Park in Edson with the opening ceremonies and individual races, and wraps up Sunday with the relay events. It’s the final regional event before the National Championships in Edmonton so there is some top notch competition lined up. Over 140 competitors have already signed up including Graham Mackenzie, Kamloops (1:15) AND Jamie McGarva, Delta West Shore Terminals (1:13), the two fastest firefighters in North America! There’s also a strong contingent of local firefighters and a few corporate teams ready to give the course a try.
Often described as the “toughest two minutes in sports”, the Firefit event features an obstacle course simulating tasks that firefighters may come across on an actual fire scene.
“With 140 firefighters signed up already this is shaping up to be a huge event that will be a lot of fun to watch” says Edson Deputy Chief Tyler Robinson. “We have some of the top competitors in North America coming so we’re hoping for a big crowd of spectators to cheer them on.”
Robinson adds there will also be a refreshment tent set up and a wildfire information trailer for spectators.
Volunteers are also needed on the course and behind the scenes throughout the weekend, If you’re interested in helping out please contact Tyler Robinson at 780-723-3178. For more info on the event itself visit www.firefit.com.
