Edson, Alberta, June 18th, 2015 – The Town of Edson is looking at adopting a School Zone Bylaw that would change the times for school zones from the Provincial standard to a more effective system for our local schools.
On request from the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division, and recommendation from the Protective Services Committee, Edson Town Council has passed first reading on a bylaw that would see school zones in effect from 8:00am to 4:30pm on days school is in session.
“The change makes sense now that schools have staggered breaks for students throughout the day and early dismissal at various times throughout the year.” says Edson Director of Protective Services Al Schram.”It will also simplify the rules for drivers.”
The bylaw will be brought back to a future Council meeting for possible ratification. Until then, feedback can be provided by calling the Edson Fire Hall at 780-723-3178.
