Edson, Alberta, Sept 24th, 2015 – A big weekend at Firefit Nationals in Ontario for a few members of the Edson Fire Department.
After qualifying at regional events, including the Edson event in May, seven members of the Edson Fire Department travelled to Kitchener, Ontario last week to participate in the Firefit National Championships. Over 300 firefighters from across the Country took part in the competition and Edson members represented our community very well. All achieved their personal best times to date in every category they entered, earning a number of medals in the process.
Edson Individual times:
Chief Al Schram – 2:17:92 (6th place in Chief Officer Category)
Deputy Chief Tyler Robinson – 1:55:94 (4th place in Chief Officer Category)
Lt. Ryan Rupert - 1:47:94 (21st place in Volunteer Category)
FF. Ian Carroll - 1:43:31
FF. Dan Brown – 1:51:00 (24th place in Volunteer Category)
FF. Corbin Gavin – 1:30:45 (3rd place in Volunteer Category)
Edson Team Relay Times:
Edson Over 40 Team (Al Schram, Tyler Robinson, Ian Carroll, Duane Woodhouse) – 1:21:88 (Gold Medal in Over 40 Relay, beating Ottawa by 1/10 of a second)
Edson Young Guns Team (Ryan Rupert, Dan Brown, Corbin Gavin) – 1:15:67
2-Man X3 Relay Times:
Tyler Robinson/Ian Carroll – 1:45:05 (Bronze Medal in Over 40 Category)
Al Schram/Duane Woodhouse – 1:54:59 (Gold Medal in Over 50 Category)
Corbin Gavin/Ryan Rupert – 1:43:00 (11th place in Men’s open Category)
Edson Deputy Chief Tyler Robinson, after 19 years of competing in the FireFit Championships, was presented with the Randy Kalan Award. This award has only been presented 4 times in FireFit’s 22 year history. It is given to the one who exemplifies what the spirit of FireFit stands for, promoting fitness in the fire service, a passion for the sport, and inspiring others in the fire service.
The Edson FireFit Team would also like to congratulate their friends and travel companions from Yellowhead County, Cpt. Andrew Kencis and Cpt. Bruce Dungey. Andrew and Bruce placed 5th in the over 50 2-Man X3 Relay, and Andrew Kencis received a Bronze Medal in the Over 55 Individual Race, posting his personal best time of the year - 2:19:44. Congratulations and great job to all that competed!
