The Town of Edson is offering services to Fort McMurray as they deal with a devastating wildfire.
Edson Protective Services has offered to send specialized emergency equipment and personnel to assist as Fort McMurray and surrounding areas continue to deal with mass evacuations and wildfires in the region. Edson has also offered to open up reception centres and municipally run campgrounds to assist with residents displaced by the fires. Calls have been made to the Province and Edson is ready to respond as needed in these areas.
Safety is a number one priority for the Town of Edson and we have made contact with our municipal partners to ensure that, if resources are deployed to Fort McMurray, the Edson area will still remain covered with more than adequate fire protection.
The Town of Edson would also like to remind residents of the extremely dry conditions in our own region. While there is no fire bans within Town limits at this time, we are asking residents to burn in permitted and approved recreational fire pits ONLY, to keep fires small and contained, and to keep an adequate water source nearby to extinguish if necessary.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the fires in Fort McMurray and the first responders dealing with a difficult situation.
