“Mayor for the Day” contest winner Dylan Falardeau had a busy day on Tuesday.
While filling in as the Town’s top dignitary, Mayor Falardeau toured the community, attended Council meetings, and even conducted some official business by signing documents and meeting with the CAO to review the Council agenda. While it was all exciting, he says his highlight was checking out the Town facilities and getting picked up in a firetruck from school.
Falardeau’s contest winning submission included an idea to install a crosswalk near the corner of 47th Street and 9th Avenue to protect kids that walk from Pine Grove and Parkland to the library after school. He identified it as a safety hazard as vehicles are exiting the 30 km/hr zone, speeding up, and not paying attention to kids and seniors crossing there.
Mayor Zahara applauded the idea saying it’s certainly a project that Council will give due consideration, adding, it’s something that we have complete control over, and the cost could be added to a future budget without significantly affecting the tax rate.
As part of the contest, Falardeau also received a Town of Edson prize pack which included a Town branded backpack, Chromebook, wireless headphones, speaker, gift certificates, and more.
Edson’s Youth Council and Community Development Department are already discussing plans for next year’s contest and how to make it even better.
The Town of Edson would like to thank Dylan for entering the contest and admirably filling the Mayor’s role for the day.
