Some interesting stats have been gathered from the Town of Edson’s mobile speed indicator sign.
The sign was placed on Edson Drive, near 16th Avenue, during the month of October. During this time, the sign displayed the speed of those travelling northbound, flashing if the vehicle was exceeding the posted speed limit.
The daily average speed was 41km/h, well below the speed limit of 50km/h, however, there were some disturbingly high speeds recorded during this time as well. The highest recorded speed was 135km/h.
The total vehicle count at the Edson Drive location for October was 39,138. Of that, only 4% were going over the posted speed limit. The total number of speed violations was 1,710. This is a drastic decrease from the overpass location in September.
The speed indicator sign is posted at various locations in Edson throughout the year, acting as a reminder to travellers, as well as providing important traffic statistics to the Town. Administration can then use this data to set enforcement and signage.
