Edson, Alberta, February 8th, 2018 – Effective immediately, the Edson and District Recreation Complex, in its entirety, is closed to the public.
Following the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) inspection, the Town of Edson brought in an independent Occupational Hygienist to continue the inspections regarding asbestos in the facility. Evidence of loose vermiculite has been found in the pro shop/meeting room areas of the building. As such, a complete shutdown of the Recreation Complex has been recommended until further testing is complete.
The Town of Edson recognizes the effect this will have on bookings, staff, as well as our user groups. We are currently in the process of contacting all of those with bookings that will be impacted by this closure.
Again, the entire facility will remain closed indefinitely until more testing is complete and a plan is put in place to deal with the issue.
