Over the past number of months, we’ve noticed an increasing problem in the grass compost pit at the Edson and District Recycle Depot.
There has been an increasing amount of plastic bags, household garbage, and large branches being dumped in and round the site. This area is designed to be utilized for grass and small branches only. When household waste and plastic bags are thrown in with grass, this contaminates the compost and takes a large amount of staff time to clean out.
If the situation doesn’t improve, the program may have to be reviewed as there are alternative means for residents to compost (curbside and landfill).
