Special Notice (Positive COVID-19 Case/Civic Centre CLOSED)

Posted on December 04th, 2020

The Town of Edson has been made aware of a third confirmed positive COVID-19 case at the Civic Centre. Close contacts have been notified and will be following Town and AHS protocol. With the increased risk, the decision has been made to fully close the facility for 2 weeks with remote work taking place and minimal staff in the building. Following that, staff that can work from home will be encouraged to continue to do so for the rest of December. The building will remain closed to the public until early January, at which point the protocols will be reviewed.

While the shutdown is underway, please utilize our website (www.edson.ca) to get specific information, phone numbers, or e-mail contacts for specific departments. There will not be anyone to answer the main line at 780-723-4401, but a message will be active to help direct residents to the proper department. Please use the following contacts Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm (not staffed Dec 18th)

• For Engineering and Planning inquiries, please call 780-723-4402
• For Recreation Programming, FCSS, Parks, and Cemetery inquiries, please call 780-723-4403
• For Town Managers office, please call 780-723-8604
• For financial inquiries, including utility and tax bills, please email taxes@edson.ca

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undergo these temporary precautions

The Emergency Coordination Centre does not make these changes lightly, however the safety of our staff and the public remain a top priority. The Civic Centre will also be deep cleaned again over the weekend.

The remainder of the Town facilities will remain staffed at this time, however, are closed to the public except for family rentals of the pool and arena.

COVID-19 case numbers in the Town of Edson are continuing to rise and, as of December 4th, 2020, we have 44 confirmed active cases in our community.

We are reminding everyone with flu-like symptoms to follow the guidelines set out by the Province of Alberta regarding testing and self-isolation. Please continue to physically distance, use proper handwashing techniques, and wear a mask in public spaces. The health and safety of our community is the Town of Edson’s top priority. No further comment is expected on this matter unless the situation changes.
