Council Notes - December 1st, 2020

Delegation. Council heard a presentation from Glenda Farnden of STARS in respect to the operations of the air ambulance service, as well as fundraising efforts and challenges during the pandemic.

Budgets and Financial Plans.  Council has approved the 2021 Operational Budget and the 2021 Capital Budget as presented. More budget details, including the full budget report, can be found online at www.edson.ca/budget. Council also approved the 3 Year Financial Plans and 5 Year Capital Plans as information.

Interim CAO. Sarah Bittner was officially appointed as the Interim CAO, effective January 1st, 2021, until a new permanent CAO is hired.

Tax Sale Properties. Council has agreed to move forward with the registration and sale of two properties that did not sell during the tax sale in September.

Internship Program. Approval was given for Administration to proceed with a grant application for the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) – Municipal internship Program. The program is administered through Municipal Affairs and has been very successful in Edson in recent years.

Degas Water Treatment Plant Grant. Administration was directed to apply for funding through the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership Grant Program for the Degas Water Treatment Plant Upgrades Project. The Degas project would produce and treat approximately 50% of the water used by the Town of Edson, as well as support growth in the west-end of the community. The total cost of the project is expected to be about $1,000,000.

Digital Signboards. Council has approved $65,000 from the COVID-19 Relief Fund Reserve to go towards the purchase of 2 additional digital signboards. These will be used to increase the messaging relating to COVID-19 measures in the community and can be repurposed for other community messaging as required.

Meeting Cancellations. The December 8th and 22nd Committee of the Whole meetings, as well as the December 15th Council Meeting have been cancelled due to the Holiday Season and Provincial Public Health Emergency.


Next meetings - The next Council Meeting is scheduled for January 5th, 2021 at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for January 12th, 2021 at 7:00 pm.
