Sanitary Upgrade B1

As part of the Town of Edson’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its core infrastructure, this project aims to address critical inflow and infiltration issues, enhance the reliability of the sanitary system, and reduce the risk of flooding during extreme weather events.
Following a comprehensive condition assessment and hydraulic modeling conducted by a consulting engineering firm, the sanitary main between 52nd Street and 55th Street was identified as a high-priority location for upgrades. This area has experienced significant inflow and infiltration challenges and was flagged for improvement to ensure long-term system performance and capacity.
Project Highlights:
- Replacement and upsizing of the sanitary sewer main
- Mitigation of inflow and infiltration to reduce overloading of the sanitary system
- Increased flow capacity
- Reduced risk of sanitary flooding and sewer backups during heavy rain events
The project has been awarded to PME Inc., and we are currently in the contract signing stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in Summer 2025. A laydown area is proposed on 53rd Street, as shown in the image below.
These upgrades will significantly improve the performance and resilience of Edson’s sanitary infrastructure, helping to protect homes, businesses, and public facilities now and into the future.
We would like to inform residents and stakeholders that work on the B1 Project is scheduled to begin June 2nd. In preparation, the contractor will begin installing signage in the project area May 31st – June 1st.
The B1 Project will be carried out in two phases:
Phase 1:
- 10 Avenue, 52 Street, 12 Avenue / 54 Street
Phase 2:
- 13 Avenue / 54 Street
Work on Phase 2 is anticipated to begin in late July or early August. More precise dates will be communicated as the project progresses and timelines are confirmed.
In addition, please note that 53 Street will be used as a laydown area for the contractor’s equipment and materials throughout the duration of the project.
If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Dillon Jones (PME Superintendent) (582)643-7283.
