EV Charging Station Site Selection. The Galloway Station Museum has been approved at the site of the Edson location in the EVenture Charging Network. The Town of Edson has been an active member of the EVenture Advisory Committee since 2020, with an aim to create a partnership between northwest Alberta municipalities to develop an electric vehicle charging network that connects the region. Grant funding is being applied for to cover half the cost of the charging stations across the network, with the other 50% being covered by a private 3rd party chosen through an RFP process. As part of the RFP, the third party
would be responsible for all operations, maintenance, and utilities costs of the network.

Key Messages – Alberta Municipalities Convention. Council has approved the key messages to bring forward at the upcoming Alberta Municipalities Conference. During the conference there is often opportunities to meet, both formally and informally, with provincial Ministers and MLAs. These key messages will aid administration in setting up meetings and guiding discussions. Some of the main topics include, ambulance wait times, homelessness funding, opposition to a Provincial Police Force, provincial downloading of costs, gas prices, highway 16 maintenance, water project funding, and infrastructure funding.

Reserve Policy. Council has approved Reserve Policy F-B-3. The Reserve Policy establishes principals and responsibilities for the management, usage, and allocation of the Town of Edson’s reserve funds. This is important for long term financial planning for both operational and capital costs.  

Meeting Changes. Council has approved the following changes to upcoming meetings.

  • Cancellation of the August 9, 2022, Committee of the Whole Meeting.
  • Cancellation of the October 22, 2022, Budget Workshop.
  • Scheduled a Budget Meeting for October 15, 2022, from 9am to 2pm in Council Chambers.

Quarterly Report. Council has accepted the 2022 June Quarterly Report as presented.

Next meetings - The next Council meeting is scheduled for August 16th, 2022, at 7:00 pm.
