Council Notes - May 3rd, 2022

Intermunicipal Development Plan. Council has passed first reading of Bylaw 2276, to amend the Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP). The amendments capture some of the changes made by Yellowhead County in their updated bylaw.  The adjustments do not change the context or purpose of the IDP.

Development Permit. Council has approved that a Public Hearing be held regarding a Development Permit application for a change of use and addition at 4921 6th Avenue. The proposed application includes a 40% increase in floor area at the front of the existing building for use as an eating and drinking establishment, while maintaining the existing residential unit. The property is located in a Direct Control zone and, as such, Council controls the use and development on that land.

2021 Year-End Surplus. Council has allocated the 2021 Year-End Surplus of $921,021 to unrestricted surplus. Historically, Administration has attempted to maintain approximately $1 million in the unrestricted surplus and about $500,000 in a tax stabilization fund. Both are used for contingency purposes and not allocated to a specific project or area.

Proclamations. Council has proclaimed the week of May 9-13 as Economic Development Week in the Town of Edson. During this week the Town will be conducting a communications campaign, in collaboration with the Edson and District Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the Edson business community.

Council has also proclaimed May 15-21 as National Public Works Week in the Town of Edson. As a part of Public Works Week, Town of Edson staff plan to attend the annual “Equipment Roadeo”, testing their skills against other municipalities. There is also a staff recognition lunch planned as well as a colouring contest for the youth.

Next meetings - The next Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for May 10th, 2022, at 7:00 pm. The next Council meeting is scheduled for May 17th, 2022, at 7:00 pm.
