Council Notes - May 6, 2025

Mill Rate Bylaw and 2025 Operating Budget Approved. Council approved the revised 2025 Operating Budget. A municipal taxation levy of $14,613,688 was approved. Mill Rate Bylaw No. 2325 received all three readings and was passed. For more information and details on the rates, visit www.edson.ca/taxes.  

Sanitary Rehabilitation Project Area Adjusted. Council approved the removal of the 14 Avenue sanitary sewer line upgrade from the scope of the B1 Sanitary Rehabilitation Project. In addition, Council directed that the Sewer Backflow Prevention/Sump Pump Installation Program be brought back for further review at a future meeting.

Traffic Signs Policy Adopted. The updated Traffic Signs and Signs Maintenance and Replacement Policy (O-T-18-C) was approved, outlining standards and replacement practices for traffic signage across the community.

Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Policy Adopted. Council approved Policy O-T-19-C, establishing clear guidelines for the maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters to enhance pedestrian safety and infrastructure longevity.

Community Grants Policy Endorsed. Council adopted the Community Grants Policy (C-S-11-C), providing a refreshed framework for local groups and organizations to apply for municipal funding to support events, programming, and initiatives that benefit Edson residents.

Alberta Rural Health Week Proclaimed. Council proclaimed May 26–30, 2025, as Alberta Rural Health Week in the Town of Edson, recognizing the contributions of rural healthcare professionals and promoting community wellness.

Joint Use Agreements Authorized. Council authorized the endorsement of Joint Use and Planning Agreements with both the Living Waters Catholic Separate School Division and the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division, supporting long-term collaboration on shared facility use and land planning.
